Food – A Healthy Obsession with Cocu Kitchen

Cocu open their first city centre location on Chatham Street, Dublin 2 on Thursday September 22nd

Cocu, Dublin’s much-loved, healthy & locally sourced food eatery will open their first city centre spot on Thursday September 22nd. The new store will be located on Chatham Street, just steps from the bustling Grafton Street area and around the corner from Stephens Green.

There will be a dedicated cafe area serving locally roasted Cloud Picker coffee and Cocu’s delectable healthy homemade sweet treats as well as giving local workers, shoppers and tourists access to Cocu’s nutrient packed and delicious lunch and breakfasts dishes which have garnered a cult following since first bursting onto Baggot Street in 2014.

In celebration of their opening day, Cocu is offering all coffee for €1 until 10am, and a “pay as you please” lunch from 12pm with all proceeds benefiting Pieta House, a Dublin based non-profit organisation providing a specialised treatment programme for people who have suicidal ideation or who participate in self-harming.

Set up by business partners John Roche and chef Emilia Rowan, Cocu was born from a love of good food and a need to eat well on the go. Having both travelled and worked abroad, where they experienced all sorts of weird and wonderful healthy food concepts, they saw a need for healthier food options in Dublin. They saw potential on Upper Baggot St, a bustling local area full of hungry office workers and since Cocu opened their doors there in March 2015 the street itself has seen a sharp transformation into a vibrant food hub with an incredible selection of places to eat.

Hatch Street followed in November 2015, nestled in the old Dublin railway arches. Now in Chatham Street they will continue to serve their thoughtfully designed, nutritionally assessed menu. Breakfasts will include their signature porridge with super-charged toppings, Cocu egg pots served with smoked salmon or Gubbeen Smokehouse chorizo, and grab & go energy pots, all guaranteed to add a buzz to your morning.

Local sourcing remains one of Cocu’s core values. They only use free range Irish chicken thighs and all fish comes from Wrights of Marino. Fresh sourdough arrives daily from Vlad at Arun Bakery in Smithfield, their coffee Cloudpicker is roasted in Dublin’s first micro roastery on Sheriff Street. Cold pressed vegetables juices are from Green Beards in Ranelagh and Cornucopia on Wexford Street. They continue to showcase young Irish businesses including SynerChi Kombucha, Nutmost and Stript Snacks amongst others.

The bright, concise lunch menu allows customers to build-their-own ‘Cocu Box’ with bases like brown rice, baby spinach or roasted sweet potatoes. You then choose your main from options like Middle Eastern Chicken with roast peppers, pine nuts & avocado or Charred Beef Flank with pickled vegetables. There are lots of options for add-on proteins for the gym-goers, homemade seasonal soups and lots of exciting sides.

The Cocu Brunch Menu will follow in the coming weeks, where they will combine their health and nutrition focus with a laid back, delectable, weekend buzz. Think Green pea pancakes with poached eggs, avocado, feta, herby greens and chilli oil. Watch this space…
